Music on the Mind
REFLECTION

What were your expectations going into this class?
Already discussing the class with you last semester, I knew to expect nothing but a great learning experience. I knew from past classes that I would be learning with the textbook, which was a great book to keep for down the road, and also hands on experience. I actually loved this class more than all the other communication classes I took at Sinclair, even beating Mass Com which was leading before this semester.
What were the challenges you faced while working on the final project?
When originally starting the project, my biggest challenge was trying to overcome the fact that the group I was working with was not interested in doing the project, and would have been happy with minimal effort. I later felt it wasn’t so bad since I took the lead and delegated them to do some of the things that weren’t as task driven.
Which guest speaker had the most impact on you? Explain why.
I really enjoyed Avante and Shelby, although I missed Sarah which I was looking forward to and probably would have loved. When Avante and Shelby came in to speak, they kept it real, but many aspects of their jobs sounded so exciting to me. I love the fast pace, put out fires, social media race until the clock strikes midnight type of job, and I look forward to having something similar.
What areas of strength do you identify with personally in regards to public relations? Explain why.
I already knew I was stubborn, but I realized with the help of this project, how hard I can push something when I really want it. It was a great way to put my training from past jobs to use when being told no. I just kept going, motivating myself and reworking my plan until it fit the discussion, turning the no into a yes. I think taking this class just helped me realize I am definitely in the right field, and I will have the confidence needed to forward into a great career.
